The AI subscription cycle

Reflecting on how I’ve spent a fortune on AI product subscriptions over the last six months.

The scenario is always the same:

  1. “Create a thing” hook, a promise I can’t refuse: sign-up for “free” account
    2. Realise (usually a few minutes later) that the free account doesn’t do what I need
    3. Watch the (always amazing) intro/training videos to be sure I’ll get what I need if I upgrade
    4. That afternoon, decide to bite the bullet and go pro
    5. Use the tool to make my stuff. The results go as far as 80% completion (often less) of the task I need completed
    6. Get really, really frustrated as 80% = 0% because it means I can’t use the thing (a car with 3.75 wheels isn’t a car).
    7. Cancel subscription

These SaaS offers are possibly the first type of product-led-marketing customer journeys (excluding scams obv.) where you do the whole lifecycle (ending with unrecoverable churn) in less than 48 hours.

This makes no sense:-(

Services that ALMOST solve for my needs are pointless. This sucks even more if you’re paying for the priviledge.
