Dave Winer continues to post on federated web platforms: http://scripting.com/2026/01/30/150403.html
His take is that a shared platform that all can use and access is not only good culturally and socially, but is more robust (remember, DARPA kicked us off as a military network resilience change). For thinkers and writers, the way we share and where we publish is important (walled gardens are bad. RSS is good).
This piece looks at the impact on UX of the need for federated ownership. I support most of his take, but wonder if there are any missed policy drivers. The military drove TCP/IP, but why did we not make public nodes a policy?
Maybe a possible solution would be where a NINO is issued to a citizen, they also get a fixed IP address?
